Cavities are formed as a result of food lodgment occurring in the micro cavities/structural defects of the teeth formed during tooth formation /inadequate cleaning leading to decalcification of the enamel as a result of acid production. Such cavities need to be filled at the earliest otherwise acid production as a result of fermentation enlarges the cavities where even more bacteria collect leading to a vicious cycle. If left untreated it will lead to pulp exposure causing severe pain along with swelling. in such a case options for root canal treatment are evaluated as not all teeth are amenable for root canal treatment .Thus earlier the intervention by filling of carious teeth ,less is the treatment cost unlike the root canal Treatment which is both time consuming and expensive.
