Crowns are made in case the tooth structure is weakened as a result of breakage/gross caries/root canal treatment. Such crowns reinforce the structure and protect the tooth from further damage. crowns are usually made of gold, chrome cobalt and nickel chromium alloys(so called metal ceramic crowns) where porcelain is fused to the metal inner core of metals for the aesthetic look. There are crown made up of other composite materials like zirconium which are very aesthetic and life like in appearance

Bridges are should be good made to provide an additional tooth/teeth taking support from neighboring additional healthy teeth. These bridges are designed to serve the mouth at least for 15 years and more

For crown and bridges the oral hygiene must be good.If it is compromised the patient is not suitable for the crown and bridges .Thus good hygiene is very essential and this includes flossing once ,before brushing twice a day . Also the floss for crown and bridge is different. It has a needle like end which help’s in the insertion of the floss and a fluffy end which comes into action once the floss is inserted below the bridge as it removes the soft food debris in a gentle to and fro movement .It s use is very essential to maintain the bridge
