Grossly broken down teeth which cannot be restored can be extracted especially if they are causing pain to the patient. Sometimes if the bone level is good, an implant can be placed in the bare socket. In orthodontics if the teeth are crowded, sound teeth may be extracted to create space so the rest of the teeth can be straightened using wiring.
